Country house hotel & restaurant Kains Hof | Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel

Place to unhitch in the old days, now a place to unwind

"Kains Hof" is framed by fragrant perennials and shrubs, island flower beds and nature stone walls. Once a farmhouse inn where horse-drawn carriages changed or stabled their horses, the building was restored in 1994 and is now a destination for travellers who enjoy a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

The former inn has a homely ambience and is furnished with rustic wooden and antique furniture chosen by Gerda and Peter Klages with great care: "We want our guests to feel comfortable, as if they were entering a living room," explains Gerda's husband Peter.

The motto "Staying with friends" is very important to the owners. A pale yellow facade with brown wooden beams makes the building with a small turret stand out from its neighbours. Clear lines and shapes as well as wooden furniture define the look of the rooms, together with sofas and armchairs in warm earthy shades. It is important to the hosts that their guests feel comfortable. Quality is equally important to them: At "Kains Hof", all meals are prepared from fresh ingredients. Herbs, game specialities and rustic cold meats and sausages are all sourced from nearby privately owned farms.  Next door, you reach the rooms, furnished in a cosy country cottage style, some of them with balconies. All of them afford glorious views across the trees, meadows and roofs of the small village. By the way, the Klages also specialise in something else: They are passionate motorcyclists, and often take their guests on tours – either in a sidecar, or on their own bikes.

EXPERIENCE TIP

See impressive stalactite formations in the underground world of a former black alum shale mine on a visit to the Saalfeld Fairy Grottoes, generally considered to be the most colourful grottoes open to the public anywhere in the world.
