Bio-Seehotel | Zeulenroda

Green countryside and an expanse of water

Leaning back in the comfortable beach lounger and sunglasses on your face. The gaze rests on the deep blue of the glittering reservoir. Thoughts wander about the forthcoming relaxation massage with aromatic oil and the evening dinner in the panorama restaurant of the Bio-Seehotel Zeulenroda.

The Zeulenrodaer Meer's surface is as smooth as a mirror. Anyone sitting on the sixth floor of the panorama restaurant of the "Bio-Seehotel Zeulenroda" will find it hard to tear their eyes away from the sight of the deep blue reservoir. On windy days, you can hear the soft sound of the waves breaking on the banks. It's almost like the real seaside here, only much greener. In every respect!

The hotel guests soon realise that here, sustainability and commitment to the region are not merely gimmicks but deeply held, practised beliefs. The furniture and furnishings are made from regional materials, and the dishes are prepared with ingredients that are almost all certified organic quality. To be able to offer this, the hotel's kitchen cooperates with farmers throughout the region. "Almost 20 farms in the region have switched to organic production methods, extra for us," explains hotel director Marco Lange. The herbs and spices come from the hotel's own garden, and when the guests can smell the wonderful aroma of freshly-baked bread in the morning, it is bound to come from the in-house organic bakery.

EXPERIENCE TIP

You don't have to complete the entire 45 kilometres in one go, but a hike on the award-winning Talsperrenweg Zeulenroda trail offers plenty of nature, the most wonderful views and a varied landscape. Originally planned as a drinking water source protection zone, the dam lake now serves as a reservoir for flood control. Thanks to a boat hire centre directly by the hotel, Zeulenroda can also be explored from the water.
