Our tips for cooling down

On hot summer days, waterside isn't the only place to cool down. You can also beat the heat in the city. Did you know that it's pleasantly cool inside many museums in the summer? In some of Thuringia's towns, you can also discover quite a few things underground. Perfect for leaving your sunglasses off for a while. Discover these different "cool" places.

The sun is high in the sky; you are wiping the sweat off your brow, time for a break! In Thuringia, you can cool down properly in many places. Regardless of whether you dangle your feet in the water, escape the hot sun by going underground or enjoy a tasty ice cream – you are bound to find something refreshing to do.

Europe’s largest continuous reservoir region is located in the Thuringian Slate Mountains/Upper Saale nature park. With its large expanses of water surrounded by dense forests it is reminiscent of Scandinavian fjords. The locals fondly refer to this area as the ‘Thuringian Sea’. And right at the heart of it is the Hohenwarte Reservoir Trail – a highly memorable 74.4 kilometre walking route.

I Initially viewed my girlfriend's idea with scepticism. However, nothing ventured, nothing gained. I certainly did gain; plenty of amazing impressions, in fact.
