Boutique Hotel Schieferhof | Neuhaus am Rennweg

Glass and Christmas baubles

Even just on the outside, the large building looks striking thanks to a daring combination of traditional and modern elements. The facade of the building is clad in grey slate tiles – which is typical for the region – that have been combined with black and white striped bay windows.

. Inside the hotel "Schieferhof", this eclectic mix continues: Striped wallpapers, checked curtains, colourful glass crockery and Andy Warhol style art on the walls. The half-timbered building, which dates back to 1905, is now a hotel with 38 rooms. Hosts Rita Worm and Lutz M. Horn are originally from Berlin and bought, renovated and extended it in 1995. Here in Thuringia, close to the Rennsteig and in the middle of a national park that extends over 15,000 square metres, they have found plenty of opportunities for self-fulfilment. "We set out to satisfy all five senses at our hotel," Rita summarises the hotel concept. "We view ourselves as experience designers. And you can experience plenty of things here." For example the region's traditional crafts companies, where porcelain, glass pieces and Christmas tree baubles are still made by hand. Or a visit to the spa of the "Boutique Hotel Residenz" in Masserberg, the other hotel owned by Rita and Lutz, which is around half an hour away by car.

EXPERIENCE TIP

The "Weihnachtsland am Rennsteig®" combines several Christmas-themed attractions in various places in the Thuringian Forest – including Lauscha, where Christmas tree baubles were invented, or the toy making town Sonneberg – into an atmospheric world of experiences that can also be enjoyed in the summer!
