Of starfish and cakes

Travelling along the Zeulenroda Sea

A boat floats in the distance. It drifts towards the sunrise. It drifts and the air is filled with morning atmosphere and ... music. Rehearsals are underway on the Seestern (starfish) Panorama stage. Preparations for the summer season. The first inhabitants are waking up in the small village of Stelzendorf.

Doreen Bergmann, however, has been on her feet for some time. She has found her true passion: baking. In her patisserie, which she has simply named ‘Pâtisserie Bergmann’, the charming little woman enchants the people in the neighbourhood and sweetens their lives.

Pâtisserie Bergmann

Here you will find the finest cakes and pastries far and wide and a visit has the potential to be addictive: once you've stopped in, you'll keep coming back! Doreen Bergmann, who studied law, has found her passion here. A hobby turned into a vocation for her, which she pursued with passion. The idyllic courtyard, the cosy ambience and, of course, the special cake creations surprise and delight every guest.

Reservoir Trail Zeulenroda

Speaking of creations. What could be more inspiring than a view of this landscape? For nature lovers, the Zeulenroda Dam Trail is one of the most beautiful hiking trails in Thuringia. The 45-kilometre trail leads along almost 90 per cent natural paths around the two large reservoirs in the Weidatal valley. It has been certified as a ‘Wanderbares Deutschland’ quality trail since 2006. Special parts of the trail are the family-friendly Promenade Trail (3 km) between the Bio-Seehotel and Zeulenroda lido and the circular trail around the Riedelmühle reservoir (3.5 km), as they are barrier-free and can also be mastered by wheelchair users. On the Promenade Trail, ten play stations for children and eleven pieces of fitness equipment provide fun and variety.

There are six links on the Talsperrenweg trail, which allow for different circular hikes from 3 to 18 kilometres. The predominantly natural trails range from barrier-free and family-friendly to challenging.

Napping by the lake

The best way to end the day on this ‘sea’ is with a cool drink on the terrace of the Bio-Seehotels or with a break in one of the 21 chalet-like holiday homes of the Bio-Seehotel Chalets, which are furnished with high-quality natural materials. Regional companies were involved from the initial design to the final realisation. The holiday homes (3 different types) offer plenty of space, are family-friendly and barrier-free.
